Paris

Paris was known for being the handsomest man. In the play version of the story he was to, but he wasn't the bravest man around. In the story Paris was very brave and was always willing to fight in the war and helped out the Trojans a lot. He also was the one in the story who had shot Achilles in the heel and killed him. In the Play version he is asked to have a battle with him and he gets scared and tries to run from everyone until he is caught. They change what he does a lot in the play version.  

I think they change his part because it makes it more interesting and it makes Paris look like someone from the modern days because it is from the modern days. There are many people like him in the world and thats what they wanted it to be. I think it was a good thing because it was what they were going for to make it more modern and it makes it a lot more interesting. They also made it so it was a lot easier to relate to him because most people can. 

The Letter

Authors Note: This is my essay about the letter that Henri writes for John before he dies. 

Everyone gets that one letter that means the world to them. John gets his from Henri. It is in his chest with all his stuff that he needs to survive for his life. This letter he gets is like the key to his life he gets told everything he needs to know. It also has some information that they could have use earlier and so they could find someone that could help them live. It is something that makes John change what he is doing just to help one of his friends. Why didn’t Henri just tell him right away?

John Learns that everything that happens in his life happens for a reason where he goes and even how it happens. He also finds out a lot about his life and what it was like on his planet and what happened when they got to Earth. Sam, John’s friend who has been telling him for a while now is that his dad has been abducted by aliens all John says that isn’t true and doesn’t believe him, but then the night comes when John decides to read the letter from Henri. 

He reads the letter and the one thing in the letter that he never thought would even be possible is true. In the letter it says that when you first move to the Earth you are given a person that gets the war and why it is happening. This person helps you get to your first destination on Earth and then you are on your own. That person that first helped them on Earth was Sam’s Dad. After a day with him he left and that was the last time they saw him. Then it says that the reason that they moved to Paradise, Ohio it is because they could be closer to Sam’s Dad, but when they got there they found out that he was gone. Henri thought it was because the Morgidrians kidnapped him. Sam might not take it well though.

When John lets Sam read the letter Sam isn’t really that made because he always knew that happened, but then it makes his think about some stuff that his Dad would talk about when he was a kid. It all starts to make scene to him. Letter explain everything to him about his Dad and why he is one now. Henri didn’t tell him because Sam would get into it and most of it was just to save his life. That’s why they think that Sam’s Dad was gone just to save him because otherwise he could be killed. Now all they have to do is find Sam’s Dad so they can get help and for Sam.

When Sam finds out about his Dad he is mad till he finds about why this happens and why Henri didn’t tell him about him. All of it was just to save Sam and Sam knows that. Now what he wants to do is find his Dad and John also does to. They need to find him because he is one of the last people on Earth that can help them with the war.  

Getting Accused

Authors Note: This is my text analysis on the book The Power of Six. I did this on how what happens in the book happens in real life.  

Crime happens. There are always crimes that are done in the world. People go on the run to not get caught after what they do so they don’t have to go to prison. Sometimes the person that gets accused is the person that didn't even do the crime. When John, Six, and Sam get accused for something they did their lives change rapidly and they are on the run for their lives from the world and the Morgidarians that are hunting them down and if they catch them again there lives could end. 

After John and Six destroy a school in Paradise, Ohio they are all over the news. There are million dollar rewards out for them. That is a really bad thing because that could give up there position to the Morgidrains and it is a easier way for them to be found. Now they are forced to live in the middle of nowhere and stay away from everyone so they don’t get caught. The thing is that no one knows about this war on planet earth for them.All they are trying to do is save there lives and planet. No one knows about these beast that are after them to kill them and take over there planet. This happens in really life all the time though when people get accused for thing that are to help people.

Just like in the book Holes the boy gets accused for stealing shoes from a store when they are really thrown by someone and lands by him and he takes them. The boy in the story wasn't really the one who stole them he just thought they were a pair of shoes someone did want, but instead they were stolen and he gets accused for it because he has them. 

This happens all the time like in the Boston Marathon. There were many pictures that were taken. There were many people that were taken pictures of after the bombing and they thought they were part of it because they were running away or even near it. This is like the book they get accused for trying to save their lives just like the people running away from the bomb. People accuse them because they did something they didn't like. Like people want the person who did it the day of so they accuse these people even though it really isn't them. People don’t notice that what the person did is something they would do to.

In the story people don’t notice that John could have been killed if they didn't fight the Morgidrians at the school and also the would have had six to kill after that. Half the people in Paradise didn't even know who John was until that happened. John risked his life to save that town and now they accuse him for being a criminal. That is why they shouldn't get accused for something they didn't do. 

Working Harder

Authors Note: The is my text analysis I did it on m=one of the most important quotes in Night Hoops.  

“There was no anger in his voice, no disappointment even. It was as if he'd given up on me. He pulled his keys out of his pocket. "I should be going now. Merry Christmas, Nick” 

This was an important quote because this made Nick think about what was happening in his life and how it was completely changing. This made Nick realize that he had to work hard and that he has to work to get somewhere in his life. Will Nick work harder though?

This really got Nick think that he had to work hard because he didn’t make the team to go to California for Christmas to play basketball. He knew that his dad was disappointed that he didn’t make it because of one shot he took. That one thing could change his life. He thought that he would have never played in a game again because of that.

Nick worked and worked to get back on the court. Then that one day happens and he gets another chance to play.  Nick works his hardest on the court with Trent and because of that he gets on the front cover of the Seattle magazine and that shocks everyone. Now all Nick’s hard work pays off because he doesn’t just get the spot back in second string but he gets the starting stop. Him and Trent work there hardest and then end up in the championship game, but there is one thing holding them back from it and it is Trent leaving to live with his brother. That bring the whole team down until a time out when the crowd starts to scream Dawson, Dawson, Dawson. The team looks around and that moment Trent comes running on to the court and the crowd goes wild. They finish that game off winning it and that is what can happen if you work your hardest.

If Nick didn’t work hard he would have never made it as far as he did. Hard work will pay off if you really do work hard. That is what Nick did he didn't stop until he was where he wanted to be and he ended up doing what he wanted. 

You, My Dear Alphonse

I think that the mom should have got to know this kid more before she said all that about him because that could had made him feel bad about him self. Boyd I think felt bad at the end when Johnny's mom got made and thought he did something wrong. I only think that she was trying to be nice though and she just thought wrong about the kid. 

A Clean, Well-lighted Place-Hemingway (Movie)

I think that the director didn't make that well of a movie he left most of the important parts like the lighting. I think I lighting part was the most important because of how it tells how the man is. It tells a lot like how he doesn't have the best life in the world and that he is lonely because he is sitting in the only dark area at thr restaurant. 

I director could have made this a really good movie because of all the stuff and how you can now everything about because the story describes it well. It think that the movie could have been a lot better but they left out parts. 

A Clean, Well-lighted Place-Hemingway

Authors Note: I wrote about the 4 question for the story.

He uses the lighting well by saying how he sits in the back of the place in the only area where there is no light. By saying that it really describer the character and how he is. If he didn't say anything abut that then you wouldn't be able to figure out what this character is like and that is a big part on this story because if you don't know how the character is you will have a hard time understand the story. 

Trent Dawson

Authors note: This is a character development about Trent Dawson in Night Hoops.  

Trent is a boy that does have a good role model. His brother is the only person he has and his brother isn’t the best role model in the world. His brother has been to the Seattle jail many times. Trent does everything he can do to get in trouble. He also isn’t the nice kid around he is always getting in fights with kids and doesn’t really like anyone, but his brother. When his brother does sometime that can put him in jail for life Trent has a decision that he has to make that could be life changing.

Nick, Trent’s neighbor is always practicing basketball and Trent likes it just as much as any other kid that plays. Steven Clay one of Trent’s friends one day asks if him and Trent can shout on the court in Nick’s backyard and they said yes. At about 10 every night after that they were there shouting. Now Trent had to go and try out for the basketball team.

A few days later was basketball tryouts. Trent showed up that day for tryouts. Every kid there was shocked to see Trent there. Nobody even knew he liked basketball. He worked his best and Made the team, but there was one thing keeping him back from playing in the first part of the season was his grades. Trent didn’t try or do anything in school he hardly showed up for school. There were other things in his life also like him and his brother got caught for killing chickens in a trail. How was Trent going to fix what he was doing though?

Trent knew that he wasn’t going to play unless he shapes up. Trent and Nick start to become more of friends when they both start to play 1 on 1 at Nick’s and they also start to work on their grades because Nick’s aren’t the best either. They bout get there grades up and start to play on the team and when both Nick and Trent play they are really good and they can’t be stopped. Then the decision comes for Trent. Trent and Nick are playing basketball when Zach Trent’s brother comes up to Trent and says I got the stuff, but Trent making the right decision says, “I’m not coming, I’m playing basketball”. Zach leaves and goes off and that next day Nick is reading the news paper and its says that one of Nick’s friend has been shot by Zach. This is the decision that Trent has to make, he can either live and run with Zach or play basketball and live a normal life. Trent says that he is staying for the rest of the basketball season and then he is leaving.

The week of the championship game Trent doesn’t show up for school and he also doesn’t go to basketball which is big because he is there best play. Trent is there though, but not showing himself till half time. At half time Trent comes running out and everyone goes wild in the stands. Trent and Nick help win the game. Out playing the other team, but then the game ends. Trent and Nick are talking after everyone leaves the locker room about the game and  the Trent makes the decision of not leaving.

Trent has to make that decision and Trent handles it well and keeps playing basketball and keeps working hard and his school work and everything in life and becomes to a better person by being nice to others. Basketball really changed Trent and he really likes it to.

In the Alley

Authors Note: This is my figurative langue piece. It is on a boy walk home through a alley. 

The night sky gives the alley a ghostly feeling. If I had to walk a million miles to get home or the alley I would take the million miles, so I would not have to take this dark and terrifying way. Tonight, this is my only option as I have to get home fast for dinner. When I step into the alley it feels like I am swallowed by darkness. I can hear every step I take. Hearing the gun shots in the distance, followed by glass bottles breaking and sirens. My heart is pounding like a marching band of drums. Every step I take I feel like I am getting farther from the end. My blood is rushing through my body faster than a cheetah running in an open field. I’m already late for dinner, should I just run through or turn around? I dart for the end. I’m running faster than Bolt in the Olympics. I am finally at the end. Dinner is ready for me when I get home. Not a word is said by me about the alley. 

The Big East

The Big East Conference has had many teams and legends come and go. The Big East has been known for their outstanding basketball teams, coaches and players throughout the years. Now that the Big East is turning into a Catholic Conference most of the teams will be forced to leave the Conference. There are many historic places that teams have played in and for some of the players that would have been 1 time for some players. Out of the 7 teams how started this great conference 4 will be staying in it for the Catholic Conference, but should this new conference  be called the big east.

There have been many teams to come and go but there were 7 how started it in 1979 with Boston College, Connecticut, Georgetown, Providence, St. John’s, Seton Hall, and Syracuse. All these teams stuck with the conferences, but Boston College. Out of the 7 who started it 4 will stay. This conference has been so good through the years that there has been so many teams try to get in it, but some of the teams didn’t want them to be in it.

Now that the new conference keeps adding and adding more teams it isn’t even the big east anymore. They shouldn't be able to even kept the name because of how much it is changing. For example they have two teams from the Atlantic 10 Butler and Xavier. These teams are Catholic, but neither of the teams have ever been in the big east. Which is unfair to the teams that have been in it for many years and now they are just getting kicked out of it. Also they are getting put in the Atlantic 10 which could be a good or bad thing, but they aren't in the conference they want to be in.

I think now that there is no real big east basketball will be different because the big east was a big basketball conference with all the good teams in it. Now it will be mostly basketball in the conference, but it will never be the same as the first big east. 

Owen Meany

Authors Note: This is my character development piece. I wrote this on Owen Meany. 

Owen Meany is the main character in the book A Prayer For Owen Meany. Owen is like no other kid in his generation, he is very short and doesn’t do things like a normal kid would. Owen is a Christian. Owen believes that he is God’s instrument. This is because of all these events that happen throughout his life. Owen and his best friend John go through a lot through their lives that change them in many different ways.

There are a lot of thing that change Owen is the book. The main thing is John’s Mom dying. She was a big thing in Owens’s life. She was always there for him. She was more of a Mom to him then birth real Mom was. Also a big thing is that Owen was the one to kill her some it was really hard on Owen because of that and how it all happened.

Owen Changes through the story after this happen for a while. First he feels really bad and isn’t really talking to anyone. Then after a while he starts to help John’s Dad because he doesn’t know who it is and Owen also because the same as he was before. Owen helps and helps him and also makes him feel better to like doing all the fun stuff they did and everything. Both of their lives go to how they were in the beginning how it was the best friendship someone could have.

Owen Changes a lot when this happens and this is a lot on a kid like him because he gets picked on and isn’t like most of the kids at his age. He can’t even do what most of them can do like play sports well run around and that may change a boy a lot even after he kills his best friends mom. 

Point of View (revised)

Everything that happens in Owens’s life that happens, all the extraordinary events happens because he believes he is God’s instrument. The story is from John’s point of view. John is Owens’s best friend and what happens in the story is heart breaking to both of them.

One of the biggest events in the story is Owen  hits a foul ball and hits and kills John’s mom. This is a big event because John is left with his Grandma for the rest of his life. Before John’s Mom died she never told John who his Dad was and she never was planning it. She wouldn’t even tell anyone. Owen felt so bad when this happen he was saying I’m sorry and also I can’t help it everything I do is because God has a plan for me and I am God’s instrument. It also was the same response back from John every time, it’s fine I know it was an accident.

If this story was in Owens’s point of view I think that the story would change a ton. I think that it would change a lot because of how Owen acts from John’s point of view. The most thing that would change is how excited Owen was when he actually made contact with the ball and what he was thinking and doing after it all happened to make John feel better.

I think if it was from Owens’s point of view it would have made the reader feel different about Owen. They would have felt bad for him because they would have figured out how important John’s Mom was to Owen and John. John’s Mom was more of a Mom to Owen then Owens’s real Mom. She cared for him and even bought him all his clothes.

There could be so many great point of views in this story, but I think that John Ivring picked the best one because of all the details he adds in and how he describes what happens and how it happens within it. From a point of view from Owen it would be a lot more think of what he did and how he kept saying how sorry he is and everything. John Ivring couldn’t have picked a better point of view and that is what makes the story. 

Under Attack

Authors Note: I wrote this based off of one of my favorite movies Red Dawn. 

Beep bee beep beep went Jake Wilson’s alarm and 7 in the morning for school. He walks down stairs, no one is there. He looks out his window and no one is there, so just decides to eat and get ready for school. He is waiting outside and the bus never comes. Jake fells and big boom in the ground and he looks in the distance and there is a car coming. The man in the car rolls down the window.

The man says,” Get in the car”.

Jake gets in and says,” What’s going on where is everyone”.

“ The country is getting attacked and they have millions of people locked up”. Said the man

“ Who’s are these people”. Says Jake

The man says,” They don’t know yet, even if they are people”.

Jake looks out the window and sees something in the distance. With it is his Mom. Jake jumps out of the car and runs over there.

Jake yells,” Mom!”

“ Go find your sister and take her back to the cabin and stay there till these things leave. Stay on the run don’t let them get to you”, Said Jakes Mom

Jake Ran Home didn’t even stop.  He ran inside grab a bunch of clothes and food and ran out. Jake jump into the car and there was his sister in the back.

“ Why are you in here?!”, said Jake

“ Mom told me to hide in here”, said his sister

“ OK well, were going to the cabin. Stay down so they can’t see you I’m going to try to get out of here as fast as I can”. said Jake

Jake drove out of the town as fast as he could and finally got to the cabin. The cabin is deep in the woods so we should be ok for now.

Jake says,” I will sleep in the living room so I can keep an eye on outside make sure no one is coming.”

After a while of sleeping Jake wakes up to some noise coming from outside and he looks out and there is his Mom and the things that were with her.

Jake runs to his sister and says,” There out there get your stuff we are leaving.” 

They go out the back door and then run into the woods where it is safer.After running and running they find a place they can stay for a awhile deep in the woods. 

Jakes sister says,” What’s that down there.”

Jakes says,” Stay I will go find out.”

Jake walks down and he sees green jackets. Like U.S. Army Jackets. He walks down. The men see him and are about to shoot.

Jake yells,” DON’T I JUST WANTED TO NO WHAT WAS GOING ON DOWN THERE!.”   

        

One of the men says,” We don’t know we have been trying to find out we can’t find out all our soldiers are locked up in the city.”  

 “There is a place up stairs we can stay my sister is moving us in up there and there is a good view of what is going on.” Said Jake

They started to move in when Jake walked out to watch look out to the city.

Jake staid to his sister,” I hope Mom is ok.”

Jake looks down to the city wondering what he can do to help.

The next morning every one wakes up to a loud sound outside. Jack and Rick(The U.S. Army Men) run out to see what it is. Jack was sitting there with something is his hands.

Jack says,” What is that?”

“ It’s a old radio I found.” Said Jake

“ What did they say about down there?”  Said Rick

“Everyone is down there from the city were going down. Also they say its robots down there they are programmed to do this” Said Jake

They get down to the plant and there is everyone down there.

Jake says,” I’m going in I found these radios I will tell you when to open the doors right here.”

Jake ran in before anyone could say anything. Jake was running and they was the big building to open all the doors Jake walked in the building and all these people were in there and Jake saw in there is was the unlock to the doors all of them. Up there though was to guards by it. Jake went the back way to get there and he got up to the floor it was on. He walked right past it and there was a cart a way away Jake picked it up and through it through the window and it landed on the 1^st floor. Jake ran for the key and got it and unlocked it and everyone started running for the door he looked out the window and saw everyone running for freedom.

The Foul Ball

Authors Note: I did this on the book A Prayer For Owen Meany. The point of view is from John Owen's best friend.

Owen Meany is a boy that is not normal. He is not like other kids where he lives. He is short and small and all the kids like to play with him. Owens best friend John tells his life story and how Owen think he  God’s Instrument. He believes that he is God’s Instrument due to the series of events happening in his life and how his life changes.

To start Owens’s  life out. A thing that doesn’t happen to most kids happens it Owen. John’s Mom, even like a Mom to Owen. Something that may that a friend away from Owen. Something that would shock a whole crowd. A once in a life time thing.

Owen was up to bat and for once Owens’s coach said swing away. Owen did just that. Owen took a wack at it and maybe wasn’t a good thing because John’s Mom was just getting to the game and walking to the bench. What she didn’t know was that the ball hit was heading right after her. Then killed her.

This was from the point of view from John. John was devastated with what had happened to his Mom. Owen kept saying, I’m sorry, I’m sorry. John kept saying back, It’s ok, I’m fine. It wasn’t though. John Mom was gone and he doesn’t know who his dad is. John is stuck with this man that his Mom just started dating. Well that was until he found his Dad.

This is a big event for Owen and John because John and Owen both have had someone that is really big in their life. It’s a life changing thing because John lost his Mom. She was even like a Mom to Owen because his Mom and Dad don’t like them and don’t want to have anything to do with him.
